Entergy Arkansas CEO says power restoration efforts to cost 'tens of millions of dollars'
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Entergy Arkansas' top executive says it will cost tens of millions of dollars to complete restoration of the power grid that was badly damaged by a Christmas Day winter storm.
CEO Hugh McDonald said Friday that about 106,000 customers remain without power, down from a peak of more than 190,000 on Wednesday.
Much of the remaining work will be more difficult and McDonald says crews are walking in backyards to assess the scope of the remaining work.
McDonald said assessment of the damage from Tuesday's storm should be complete Friday.
The utility says the most badly damaged areas in and around Little Rock, Hot Springs and Malvern won't be restored until next Tuesday.
McDonald said rain Friday didn't significantly slow the work.
