EOS Lawsuit Settled After Lip Balm Brand was Accused of Causing Blisters and Rashes
According to TMZ , several very unsatisfied customers are suing the popular lip balm brand EOS, claiming that the cute little egg-shaped balm made them break out in severe rashes and other harsh reactions.
Rachel Cronin has filed a class action lawsuit against the company, saying that the lip balm, which is backed by celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Hilary Duff, and Britney Spears, caused bleeding, blistering, cracking and loss of pigmentation around the lips.
Rachel detailed her experience in detail, explaining that after "hours of applying the balm, her lips felt like sandpaper, so she applied it again," after which she says "her lips started cracking, flaking and bleeding, creating blisters and rashes which lasted 10 days."
This isn't the first case of customers complaining about adverse reactions to EOS' popular lip balms either. In the lawsuit, Rachel claims she shared what happened on Facebook, and according to the lawsuit, "the post set off a frenzy of responses from other individuals who shared the identical experience with EOS."
Twitter is also littered with users claiming the balm has given them skin issues.
Others have complained about mold growing in their egg-shaped pods.
There's no word on how much the class action suit is looking for in damages, but they are demanding that EOS do corrective advertising.
UPDATE, 4:00 P.M.: A rep from EOS gave this statement regarding the lawsuit to Seventeen.com:
"We firmly believe this lawsuit is without merit. Our products are made with the highest quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set out by our industry and validated by rigorous testing conducted by an independent lab. The health and well-being of our customers is our top priority and millions of satisfied customers use our products every day, many of whom take the time to share their experiences with us."
UPDATE, January 28, 11:45 P.M.: The case against EOS has been settled. A statement from the company reads:
"We are pleased to announce that the class action lawsuit brought against eos earlier this month has been resolved. Our products are safe – and this settlement confirms that. Our lip balms are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, made with the highest quality ingredients, meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set by our industry and are validated by rigorous safety testing conducted by independent labs. We love our customers and their enjoyment of our products is our top priority. We thank them for their continued support."
The lawyer who brought the lawsuit against EOS also released a statement:
"I am very pleased that we have been able to so quickly and amicably resolve the matter with eos lip balm products. This is a testament to eos being responsive to the concerns of their consumers. eos has demonstrated through data that their lip balms are hypoallergenic, and has provided a mechanism for individual instances to be resolved. eos makes great products and the company is doing the right thing by adding more information about their lip balm products on packaging so that buyers can make informed choices. We will be applying to the courts to close this case."
