Equifax completes acquisition of CSC credit unit

Equifax closes $1B acquisition of Computer Sciences' credit services business

ATLANTA (AP) -- Equifax Inc. has bulked up the reach of its credit reporting services, saying on Friday that it completed its $1 billion purchase of Computer Sciences Corp.'s credit services business.

CSC said earlier this month that Equifax, which collects and sells consumer credit information, had agreed to buy the business. CSC's Credit Services owns consumer credit files in 15 states. It's one of the largest independent U.S. consumer credit reporting agencies and has been an Equifax affiliate since 1988.

CSC, which is based in Falls Church, Va., wants to focus more on its technology services.

Shares of Atlanta-based Equifax shares rose a penny to $53.76 in afternoon trading. Computer Sciences shares rose 11 cents to $39.35.
