The Ethiopian Heritage College Scholarship is now accepting applications from students in the Washington, D.C. metro area who are graduating high school in Spring 2012.

Residents of the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington, D.C. who have been admitted to a two-year or four-year university or college for the 2012-2013 academic year are considered eligible applicants for this scholarship. Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata, & Siegel, P.C. has provided information about the Ethiopian Heritage Scholarship to D.C. metro area high school guidance counselors, and has requested that counselors encourage all eligible students to apply.
The awardee of the $1,000 scholarship will be selected from the eligible students based on a written essay, the student’s academic standing (judged according to high school GPA), community service, and other criteria. After considering each application, the committee may invite one or more applicants to a personal interview, where the student’s character, motivation, ability, and potential will be assessed.
The Ethiopian Heritage Scholarship funds will be disbursed in two equal payments during the months of August 2012 and February 2013. Scholarship money may only be used for education-related expenses, such as tuition, room and board, and books. To maintain eligibility, scholarship recipients must demonstrate satisfactory academic performance by submitting grades and overall academic performance reports every grading period. Failure to submit reports or to maintain satisfactory performance will result in a withholding of scholarship funds.
For the purposes of scholarship eligibility, the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington, D.C. is defined to include Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, and Prince William counties in Virginia; Howard, Montgomery, Anne Arundel, and Prince George’s counties in Maryland; and the City of Alexandria, Virginia.
