Extensive ties to a powerful Koch group boost Cain

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential contender Herman Cain casts himself as the outsider, the pizza magnate with real-world experience who will bring fresh ideas to Washington.

But Cain's economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity.

Cain's campaign manager and other aides have worked for the advocacy group founded with support from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch. The group lobbies for lower taxes and reduced government regulation and spending.

Cain is quick to promote his job running a pizza chain. But his ties to the Koch brothers are not something he appears eager to highlight.

His campaign did not respond to inquiries seeking comment, and Cain does not include his Americans for Prosperity connections on his biography on his website.

The news media is lying and has people fretting over the 9% National Sales Tax. Unlike a state sales tax, which is an add-on tax that increases the price of goods and services, this is a replacement tax. It replaces taxes that are already embedded in selling prices. By replacing higher marginal rates in the production process with lower marginal rates, marginal production costs actually decline, which will lead to prices being the same or lower, not higher. Everything that you buy has hidden taxes embedded in the price already. Think about gasoline, tobacco products, and alcohol for example. Some products the taxes are as low as 3 percent others like peanut butter is 143%. Cain plan just levels the playing field that's all. Some products will be much cheaper.

OK...so exactly what embedded taxes are being replaced by the 9% tax...be very specific

Do you and Cain really think prices of products will go down? If so, then i've got some special deals to offer you.

Yet the states still get to collect their taxes. Under Cain's plan, EVERYTHING you buy will cost 9% more. 9 Percent income tax sounds attractive until you realize you got a 9% pay cut.

You know, it is easy to attack the Koch brothers. They do have " EVIL " mining interests. It doesn't matter that in the 1980's they were doing millions of dollars of research to make coal a cleaner, more acceptble fuel, so that America would not have to import so much energy and save jobs. Don't bother giving them any credit! If they were the worst America had to offer, we would be in good shape indeed. ( Did anyone check out the aqverage salary of a Koch employee). I thought not.

I don't care which party it is. I don't care which candidate it is. Any person who, as an individual, wants to contribute money out of his or her own personal income should be free to do so. Corporations should NOT. SCOTUS was wrong. Their ruling should be overturned, and there should be a cap on how much can be contributed, and how much can be spent on campaigns. Corporations have been buying politicians, and politicians then politicians buying elections for way to long. Look where it's got us.

I couldn't agree more with you.

Sorry, but you're making too much sense. At least they should put the price tags on politicians and who their buyer is.

SCOTUS was loaded to the right during dubya admin...add that to gramm-leach-bliley and big corps do whatever they want

When who has the biggest bankroll is a major determining factor in which party and which candidates are successful on election day our political system and government can no longer be considered as being for the People and by the People as intended in the Constitution.
It has become a government for Some People and by Some People.

We should limit campaign spending, its obvious limiting contribution does not help. Also, Impound Soros's assets, draft the OWS #$%$ into a Job Corps (No more Wellfare) use Soros's funds to pay them a wage. I know. most of them will head for Canada, etc.

I think some of us just can't comprehend just how big the world is. We hate big oil, big money, big business and big banks. Today there are over 7 Billion people on earth and over 300 million Americans . Americans are less than 5% of the worlds population. If I spent years developing the perfect mouse trap and only made a nickel on every mouse trap I sold, but sold one to half the people in the world every year - I would soon be worth billions...

I don't think that anyone "hates" those things. What they hate is that those things are raping us!

Until big money's influence on our political system is curtailed, this "democracy" will essentially be controlled by (and benefit) special interest groups ... not the people.

end all corporate sponsorship of politicians. Koch, Murdoch, and Soros do not care about the American people, only their own agendas

No seat in any Government should be up for sale. Those already in place and those seeking office must be held to the highest standards. Limit the contributions or abolish the practice all together. No candidate should have or need vast amounts of money to defeat an opponent. Its your ideas of how to maintain the principals by which this country was founded. The protection of its people and laws, should determine the next candidate to be chosen to fill the seat of any public office. Its time to reverse the direction in which this country is going. Money is the root of all evil if implemented in a manner to change the principals and laws by which this country is governed. This country was established for the people, and to be kept by the people, from intrusion of government as to hinder their right to liberty, life, and the pursuit of happiness. The people choose the right person to govern, not the candidate with the most money buying their votes through dishonest use of false physiological rhetoric. I think the candidate with the least amount of money has the best chance of "not" being obligated to return the favors imposed upon them by large donors. I know, but its politics ,most of you think. Time to think outside the box, time to change the way that politics has become a dirty profession. Time to clean up everything and keep it clean.

Let's see - FOUR stories on Cain today, all with a negative slant. ONE story on Obama, about how he channeled the spirit of MLK at the memorial. Yeah, that's pretty fair.
    • Len  •  7 mths ago
All politicians should have to wear Nascar jumpsuits with their corporate sponsors logos on them.
    • john  •  7 mths ago
And obama has ties to the Other Billionaires, like GE, Soros, etc., etc., etc. So what is new? On top of that, every green idea he has backed has failed. So, Obama, or Cain?.Mmmmm?

Give tax breaks to small business- ie mom and pop business that employ less than 50 persons and are in one state; and tax those corporations that have sent jobs and money overseas rather than creating them here. Force the large megacorporations to invest a portion of profits back into profit sharing and job creation...or face tax rates of 40 percent or more.
    • Hope  •  7 mths ago
Look no further then Obama and Soros....I'm sure the media would find that relationship extremely interesting.
