Have an extra $1,500 lying around? Anyone can buy Google Glass right now
If geek is the new chic, it doesn’t get any more chic than Google Glass. Google’s connected eyewear represents the company’s first attack on the emerging wearables market. While most other companies are content to start with wrist-worn fitness trackers and smartwatches, Google has taken a much more interesting approach by slapping a display on face-mounted hardware. The result is a unique experience with plenty of fascinating use cases.
Exactly when Google plans to make Glass widely available to the public is still unclear. Also unclear is the launch price of the device. For a limited time, however, the early “Explorer” version of Google Glass has been made available to anyone with a credit card.
Google Glass was previously available to purchase by invite only, but beginning on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. EDT, anyone can go to the Google Glass website and order the Explorer edition. As has been the case since this pre-release version of Glass was first made available, the device will cost $1,500.
This is a one-day-only deal and Google says there are a limited number of units available, so those interested in purchasing Glass should do so quickly.
Google Glass might not be the next iPad, but it could certainly represent the start of a remarkable new class of wearable devices.
