Tonight as I was watching television, I saw it run across the bottom of the screen that President Obama would be addressing the country soon. My heart fluttered for a second as I wondered what he would be telling us. I went back to watching my show as I was using my laptop. As I logged into Facebook, I immediately saw that Osama Bin Laden was dead. The feelings that went through my body were a sense of pride and comfort all at the same time.
Tears started pouring down my face as I yelled to my husband in the other room to tell him the news. My seven year old daughter did not understand what was going on and we had to explain to her the horrible things that this man has done in a way that her young mind could understand. My heart was beating fast, my mind was going all directions, and it took me a minute to compose myself enough to explain it to her. She knew about 9/11, but did not understand the man behind it all.
My life has been different since marrying someone in the military. I am the proud wife of a United States soldier. My husband is a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. He has served his time by spending one year in Iraq and missing the birth of our youngest daughter. The war in Iraq has affected my life many times. We have heard of another deployment happening and have many friends that are soldiers who are on their way to Afghanistan now.
The new of Osama Bin Laden being killed by our soldiers is wonderful news to this family. It also causes fears that Al-Qaeda will retaliate in some way. I can't help but have fear for my husband and the other soldiers who are fighting to protect our country. My heart aches at the thought of someone trying to harm Americans because we killed someone they thought of us a leader. This is someone that many of them thought was doing good things for their country. Hopefully this will bring peace to our country and be the start of something amazing. I have high hopes that this will be what needed to happen so that we can start bringing our troops home where they need to be with their families and watching their children grow. God bless America and God bless our troops!
