YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY

Facebook changes inadvertently allow users to see who defriended them

Assuming that a user has already enabled the new Timeline profile page on Facebook, there’s a feature built into the Timeline that allows to users to view how many friends were added each year. Go to the Timeline page and choose a year on the right side of the page. Scroll through the posts and locate the “Friends” box. Within the Timeline, Facebook groups actions that occurred over the course of the year including new friendships, photos uploaded, events attended and new likes. On the “Friends” box, click the “Made X New Friends” link and this should load a pop-up window that lists all friendships created during that year.

Scroll through the list and anyone that terminated the friendship will appear with an “Add Friend” button rather than a “Friends” button. However, the “Add Friend” could also mean that the user terminated the friendship. Users that deleted their profiles at some point over the years won’t appear on this list and users that have been blocked won’t appear here as well. For instance, an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend won’t appear within this list if the blocking feature was enabled to completely cut out that person from a user’s social network.

The Timeline change to the profile page represents a massive alteration to the original Facebook design. The new design allows users to select both a banner picture to go across the front of the profile as well as the identical profile picture. Users can scroll through the profile timeline by month or by year. Information that was listed on the info link of the profile page is now within the Timeline design as well. For instance, users can scroll through the years and view previous jobs. Users can also assign photos to previous jobs, both on the start and the end dates. Timeline should be available to all Facebook users within the next two weeks.

You all think that is bad of Facebook, which has now removed the option. What about the right of those being unfriended? Don't they have the right to know? If someone tags you and puts a photo on YOUR wall and in YOUR profile you can remove the tag, but you CAN NOT remove the photo. You can take it off your profile but it remains in your fb photos. You have to ask the person who tagged you and posted the photo on your fb page to take down the photo. What's with that? The way to get rid of such invasion is to block the person who sent the photo and that removes everything.

Facebook is getting more and more annoying every day. But honestly, who gives a damn if you find out who defriended you or the other way around?

WELL SAID IF U DONT WANT SOMEONE TO BE YOUR FRIEND OR VISE VERASA DELETE IT . EVEN IF THE OTHER PERSON KNOWS WHO CARES.
      • trike 8 mths ago
no one is forcing you to be on it. if you don't like it, don't use it.
      • Urked70 8 mths ago
@Trike: You complain about gas prices? You still drive? You complain about taxes? You still file yours? Thought so. Sure you can cut Facebook off, but you'd be cutting yourself off from your social circles as well. You'll have to resort back to emails and phone calls (which people do less these days). In most people's busy schedule and long distant locations it becomes more of an inconvenience.

Even the ones that want to leave, just can't bring themselves to. Facebook knows this and use it to their advantage in growing, they have a strangle hold right now on it's users. You no longer have choices, you get what they give you, and you either take it or you don't. Until something better comes along, people will just grin and bare. Just like with gas. There are other means of transportation, but many people are hooked on driving. Still doesn't make it right. Your privacy is no longer you own. You can post what you want, but it's Facebook that determines what you share that you've already posted, not you. They just make you think you do. That's why I keep saying, NEVER post anything online that you DON'T want the world to know. Because they will.

i created my page around the end of 2006 and deleted it october 2007 because it was affecting my school work and i wanted to get good grades so i deleted it and i wont get google+ cuz if i do then whats the point of quitting facebook?
      • Indie 8 mths ago
Same here... I deleted it 1 week ago after usinf it for almost 5 years.
It was actually starting to affect my happiness... Can be hard to compare yourself to others who appear so much happier than you (maybe only on paper but still...) + could not help myself spying on exes which ended up hurting me...
        Anyway... Already feeling better :)
FB is a waste of time!!!!

What is it about computer programmers that require them to always want to fix thing that ain't broke. (Facebook started out as a great product but it is becoming more and more a nerd's nightmare.)
    • Rock  •  8 mths ago
Facebook, YOU SUCK!!! I'm debating getting off altogether!
    • Michael T  •  8 mths ago
who cares?? really!! like really really!! its just images and things to look at on a computer monitor to waste your time with, if this worries you, take a step back into the real world...

Don't bitch about privacy. If you wanted privacy, you wouldn't be on Facebook in the first place. Facebook owns everything you do, from private messages (yeah, they can read em, and YES THEY HAVE sold them to governments) to pictures. If your boss has enough pull, he can get your drunken pictures you posted (why did you even think that was cool) and get you fired over them. If you unfriend someone, guess who has record of it? If you're selling illegals things (CD's WHATEVER...) from your inbox...guess who's watching? I really suggest reading 1984 by George Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. George Orwell predicted what it would be like, Aldous Huxley predicted how we would fall for it, with open arms and smiles on our faces.
      Food for thought.

I am THIS close to closing my account on FB... people have actually lived through centuries without it.
    • Skrills  •  8 mths ago
Yeah, and where is the dislike button?
    • notblue  •  7 mths ago
Facebook is for hermits. Once you are hooked you will never leave the house and have REAL friends.
    • Michael  •  8 mths ago
I like the Toyota commercial about the girl with 600+FB friends who is sitting home alone while she makes fun of her parents who have less than 20 FB friends but are out socializing with their in-the-flesh friends.
    • Vince  •  8 mths ago
Now I know why I never bothered getting a face book account. Too much BS.

Facebook and You: If you're not paying for it, you're not the customer. You're the product being sold.
