Facetune review

Replete with Photoshop-grade, face-enhancing features, Facetune allows you to improve portrait photos dramatically, more than any other Android image editing app we know of. But before you can use it effectively, you must have the patience to learn its features.

Pros

Professional-grade retouching features: Facetune puts at your disposal a smile brightener, a blemish remover and skin rejuvenating tool, facial reshaping for heightening cheek bones and improving noses, an array of good-quality filters, and several other useful retouching tools that can help you make your photos look almost like the portraits on the covers of fashion magazines.

Excellent tutorials: When you use a tool for the first time, you are shown informative graphics and video help screens, which present the feature and explain the hand gestures it requires.

Smooth and intuitive editing: Not only are the editing tools easy to access through a toolbar at the bottom of the screen, but nifty features like the ability to compare your work in progress with the original photo at any time or to create your own customized filters make this app a treat.

Cons

Takes time to get used to: Although you'll recognize most features from Photoshop and comparable photo editing apps, many of them have been tweaked for touch screens and quick editing and work slightly differently, so you have to play with them for a time to become comfortable with them. The wealth of options available can also be confusing at first.

Bottom Line

Hands down the best Android photo editor for retouching and enhancing selfies we've come across so far, Facetune has wonderful, worthwhile features. Whether or not this app is for you, however, depends on your willingness to play with its features and invest some hours into learning how they work. Also, be warned that using this app is so fun that, once you get the hang of it, there will always be the danger that you'll overdo your photos and end up looking like a plastic surgery disaster.
