FACT CHECK: Gingrich Claim on Obama Infanticide Vote A Stretch

In answering a CNN debate question about birth control, Newt Gingrich lashed out at the media for giving President Obama a free pass during his 2008 bid.

“Not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich was presumably referencing Obama’s opposition to Illinois’ proposed version of a “born alive” law, intended to require doctors to administer immediate medical care to any infant that survived an intended abortion.

According to Politifact, an independent fact-checking organization that looked into similar claims made by former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum on the campaign trail, Obama voiced his opposition to the new legislation as a state senator because it would have given legal status to fetuses and would thus have been struck down by the courts, and because Illinois already had laws to ensure infants who survived abortions would be given medical attention.

FactCheck.org found holes in Obama’s explanations as to why he did not support the “born alive” legislation. However, by opposing the bill, Obama was not voting to legalize infanticide (as Gingrich said) or to prevent doctors from giving infants medical attention.

Furthermore, the media, including CNN, reported on and discussed Obama’s opposition to the legislation during his 2008 presidential campaign.

Gingrich cheated on his former wife with the current wife. The current wife absolutely knew she was dallying with a married man...something, me a total left-wing motorcycle riding ex-hippie chick would never do, I have morals. Do you want a morally corrupt First Lady let alone a President?? That's all I have to say about Newt.

This is the guy who asked his second wife for an open marriage. Can you imagine this solid santorum sauce standing naked in front a mirror and saying "Yeah! Women want a piece of this!" ROTFL!

The way the bias media hounds the Repbulican candidates on these social issues is hardly the same as CNN asking a question ONE time to Candidate Obama. Shame on you Politifact!
      • Dan 3 mths ago
GOP candidates focus on social issues to avoid economic problems.
      • Nynah 3 mths ago
They focus on obstructing women's access to birth control because men don't get pregnant and the women in the party are spineless drones. The men running on the Republican ticket are a frightening lot of mysogynists focusing on abridging womens' rights because they have no workable plans for us and our country's future - unless, of course, we are corporations, ultrawealthy or unfit to hold office in a nonsectarian society.

Fact Check: People are poor because of factors well beyond anything a politician can do. In fact when politicians to do something they generally make it worse. The Democrats have enslaved the poor since the 60's with their welfare state. How has that worked out? Poverty has increased and most people never escape poverty unless it is to jail or an early grave. The poor got poorer as a result of welfare and the Democrats knew damn well that "keeping poor people poor but always promising more" would be their ticket to a voting block. The poor people are pawns of the Democrats and they have no sincere plans to improve their livelihood. As Gingrich said, and I hate quoting that tubby blow hard (sorry for stooping to the Dems level for a moment), there are more people on welfare and food stamps now than ever before. Welfare and food stamps are today's slavery. When people on it should be running like Kunta Kinte ran from his so-called master, today's slaves beg for more handouts relegating what Kunta Kinte did as irrelevant. And Obama encourages this and that is an absolute abomination to the bravery and valor of the wise Kunta Kinte. It is sick what welfare has done to our great nation and the Democrats have been the deceitful purveyors of this wickedness for more than half a century. I have to ask again, how has welfare worked out for the poor over the last half century? If you think it's been a success you are a warped, sick individual and you have Kunta Kinte turning over in his grave. He would never accept the pestilence and pittance of welfare. I must paraphrase a line from a fine Democratic Senator, Mr. Lloyd Bentsen, from a time when Democrats had some class: "Mr. Obama, I watched Roots as a 10 year old. I saw what Kunta Kinte did. Mr. Obama, you're no Kunta Kinte."

Whereas most media fights against dictatorial rule our media willingly becomes used even an operative of the President Obama's propaganda. Let's call out today's media for the shills they have become - part of Obama's propaganda machine. Folks if you read it here and it's negative about Republicans you can be sure it has been written by a totally biased, left-leaning Democratic party shill. They will contrive stories and twist facts in order to malign Republicans. Fact is they know what they have become but they're so blinded by their ideology they cease to be journalists and have simply become pawns of the Democratic party to do its bidding. The Media Matters revelations pretty much brought that fact to light. We have a very cynical President aligned with a very cynical and supplicant media that do not deserve to be called journalists. Journalists take an oath to tell objective truth. These media outlets have made a conscious choice to deceive us - the American public.

Newt it is desperate time. You will never make POTUS give it up. What is my point well, how about this one outburst !
    • Suzi  •  3 mths ago
Semantics! Because of Obama's vote babies that "survived" abortions were wrapped in a blanket and put in a closet to die.. according to nurses forced to do it.

In 2003, as chairman of the next Senate committee to which BAIPA (Born Alive Infants Protection Act) was sent, Obama prevented it from even getting a hearing. BAIPA, by the way, stated that all live-born babies were guaranteed the same constitutional right to equal protection, whether or not they were wanted.
