Fallon apologizes to Bachmann for song choice

NEW YORK (AP) — NBC's Jimmy Fallon says he's sorry for the snarky welcome his "Late Night" band gave to Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann.

As Bachmann entered the studio for an interview on Tuesday morning's show, the Roots played a snippet of a 1985 Fishbone song. The title of the song is "Lyin' Ass B----."

Fallon tweeted to Bachmann that he was honored that she came onto his show and that "I'm so sorry about the intro mess." He said he hopes she will come back to his show.

One of Bachmann's congressional colleagues, New York Democrat Nita Lowey, had called on NBC to apologize for its "insulting and inappropriate" treatment of its guest.

I never have seen an episode of Fallon and I probably won't now either, but the root of all this is NBC. Do a search for "Dateline NBC and Chevy gas tanks" and you will see that they don't report the news, but instead manufacture the "news".

i agree, but each network station has a parent company that promotes itself on its on station from GE to Disney. You aren't gonna get anything impartial from what they want you to think on any of 'em.

The media started this with "Bush Bashing." There were no complaints then, as we were led to disrespect the highest office in the land, and the man. Yet we are appalled such a thing could happen to a Bachman? Not that it's right. Just that the entire lack of respect started back then has now sperad to include the "Occupy Wall Street" mobs. It includes the blatant bad behavior and theft by political officials. Where were the Liberals back then?
      • DrewPBalzac 6 mths ago
recovering from the Clinton bashing . . .
      • ChrisD 6 mths ago
You can respect the office without respecting the man. I respect the work Rush Limbaugh puts into his show even if I think he is an idiot.
      • dasho 6 mths ago
yes because there def' was no bashing of Clinton

Does everything have to be done by tweet or facebook? Have people forgotten how to pick up a phone and have an actual conversation with somebody. It wqould make an apology much more genuine.

as an octogenarian I can remember times wheen people had manners, respect, education. All gone now, mainly in shows, with idiotic talking heads.TRASH TRASH TRASH.

These guys are supposed to HIDE their clear bias.. more and more, they don't.
      • DrewPBalzac 6 mths ago
why should they hide their bias? If Rush and others can use the public airwaves to spout their world views why shouldn't others?
      • Jerry 6 mths ago
yea like Fox news does so well.
      • ChrisD 6 mths ago
B-Dodgers doesn't specify who "these guys" are, maybe he means all entertainment personalities.

He was right to apologize: guests should be treated respectfully. If there is someone that you hold so much disdain for that you would intentionally insult them in such a manner, then don't invite them.

Go figure, the Roots is basically an all-black band. If an all-white band played that for Michelle Obama, it would be all over the liberal news media and the band would all be fired for being "racists". It's unfortunate how the elitist, pseudo-intellectual, self-righteous liberal mass-media-entertainment complex has become America's Fifth Column.

Wish people would just stop and think. If you even think an apology is in the future, then why do it in the first place? This is another reason I refuse to watch the "talk shows". So much wasted time, so little intelligence. And you have to know fallon knew what was going to happen and allowed it anywahy.

whatever she believes or is. that was rude. She was a guest on his show and he should have respected her or not have had her on.
    • BryanT  •  6 mths ago
Frankly I'm shocked anyone recognized a Fishbone song from 1985.

Fallon is only funny to junior high girls ! Not funny at all and kinda stupid !

Everyone is blaming Fallon, and yeah it's his show, but the guy who did this is the band leader. It is totally possible that Fallon had no idea the band was going to do this. If that is the case, then the band leader is the one who needs to be raked over the coals and is the one who needs to be making the apologies. And then fire him.

If the tables were turned someone would have to be fired. A mere apology would not suffice.

I am an independent. Degrading women is wrong. A group of men degrading a woman is wrong. Very simple.

It's easy to do something very rude and wrong that you CHOOSE to do then "issue an apology". It didn't matter who his guest was, he ambushed the guest and then says I'm sorry? No class Jimmy Fallon...

I can barely stand to look at Bachmann, and I think she is unqualified for any job of any sort. However, we should be civil to each other, especially on nationwide television. The country is split enough without making every opportunity to razz someone the worst it could be.
    • meh  •  6 mths ago
I disagree with Mrs. Bachmann's politics but that was completely uncalled for. A little civility and respect would be a welcome change.
    • Centexan  •  6 mths ago
If someone in the hierarchy of the show approved this, he should be fired. Same if the band leader just decided to do it. Most of us have a filter we use between having a thought and acting on it.

Fallon is as funny as a stroke.
