NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (AP) — A devastated father says he has no idea why gunmen targeted his Northern California home over the weekend, killing his 10-year-old daughter as she watched TV.
Ernesto Campo returned to the family's home Monday with his brother to collect personal items. Family members are staying with relatives to avoid the home riddled with bullets and stained with blood.
Campo and his wife also were wounded in the attack that Sacramento County Sheriff's officials suggested could be gang-related. The Campos family has two other children who live with them, a 14-year-old who was playing video games and a 20-year-old who was not home at the time of the shooting.
Sheriff's investigators say at least 12 shots hit the home from two guns. Spokesman Jason Ramos said the gunmen were on foot.
