Fear of Losing Jobs, Affects Employee Performance

OF COURSE the fear that you will loose your job makes your work performance suffer. If the company isn't even slightly dedicated to you, then why ever would YOU be at all dedicated to the company?

And yes, attempts to intimidate worker to work harder or be fired just results in your best people - the ones who also have the best possibilities ELSEWHERE - taking themselves to that ELSEWHERE and leaving you the dregs you'd have just as soon seen leave.

There is a lot more to this than what is in the report. I work at a large well known global company that prides itself on job satisfaction of employee "Partners." Middle management does not follow policy equally around the company, and this is tolerated. In my area middle managers actively use ongoing and escalating threats of losing your job as "motivation" to work harder in the face of headcount losses. This is absolutely a miserable environment and it is created intentionally to try to coerce more and more personal time being devoted to work instead of family/personal life.

Why be loyal to a company that holds your job over your head like a hammer! Most hire bosses that cant do the job or find it easier to send the jobs overseas. We have an israeli come in wiyh a plan to send plant to mexico and his plan fell by the wayside and they put him in charge of rebuilding, He is over his head and i will enjoy watching him get fired one day. mideast piece of crap

Why is it that these idiots can only prove the obvious? Sadly, loosing your job is a real thing.

Most people are fired/laid off not for performance reasons but because their job is being offshored or they're getting a little older or maybe they just don't kiss their boss's #$%$ enough. Once you know your days are numbered there's no point in putting any real effort into the job. Either way you're out soon. Might as well take it easy and concentrate on finding your next job.

I hear management say that people are lined up at the gate to get my / our jobs, then they use evaluations to start building a negative record of you , then as they fire people who were doing a good job and add that work load to your responsibilities and task , and the preach safety safety safety. so when I have too train a NEW guy I don't let them know all the tricks . I'm a non union guy and would like it to stay that way . but the root cause is the I.R.S . my company must document all economic losses for wright offs , I spend more labor on documentation than I do in production . I would like to start my own company but FEAR the I.R.S. and all the vague laws rules and regulations . maybe I can open a sweat shop in Maylaysia.

i would think the fear of loosing your job would make you work at it harder. to keep it.
