National Wear Red Day
Although heart disease is often associated with aging men, it is actually the No. 1 health threat to women. To raise awareness and save lives, the American Heart Association in 2004 created an initiative called "Go Red for Women." Since that time, 21 percent fewer women are dying from heart disease, and 23 percent are more aware of the dangers they face.
* Chest pain or discomfort
* Shortness of breath
National Freedom Day
It's been well over 200 years since our colonial forefathers declared independence from England. But we often forget that the American Revolution resulted in freedom for only a portion of America. It wasn't until Feb. 1, 1865 -- almost 90 years later -- that President Abraham Lincoln signed a resolution to outlaw slavery in the United States.
Today is "National Freedom Day." It's the perfect time to reflect on what equal rights for all really means, how far we've come as a nation and which battles are left still to be fought.
To celebrate, why not head out to your local theater to see the 2012 blockbuster hit, "Lincoln," starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field? You can check out the trailers on Yahoo! Movies.
Working Naked Day
Tens of millions of Americans now work from home at least part of the time. As one of those, I can attest that my work attire would definitely not pass even the most lenient of office dress codes. But today is the day to pass on any and all attire -- it's "Working Naked Day."
If you're skeptical, consider these reasonable arguments from The Academic Naturist:
* Going nude helps resolve self-image issues.
* Eliminating clothing helps to save energy by cutting down on laundry.
* Boycotting attire helps put an end to child labor in sweat shops around the globe.
* Being naked will expedite your clearance through airport security!
Hula in the Coola Day
It's just about this time every year that those of us in the Northern Hemisphere start getting anxious for the arrival of spring. Although there's not much we can do to hasten Mother Nature we can pretend not to care -- at least for one day.
Today is "Hula in the Coola Day" and encourages us to thumb our noses at winter's worst and celebrate in true tropical fashion. So dig out that old grass skirt and coconut bra, dust off the Don Ho albums and start blending up some fruity libations! Here are some great tropical drink recipes from Yahoo! Shine:
