    Feds investigate Fla rep's campaign contributions

    MIAMI (AP) — The Justice Department is investigating whether a three-term Florida congressman broke campaign finance laws.

    Justice is looking into whether Rep. Vern Buchanan directed a former business partner at a Jacksonville auto dealership to reimburse employees for political contributions to his campaign.

    The Sarasota Republican's campaign said in a statement Tuesday that it expected the investigation and is confident he and staffers will be cleared. The Federal Election Commission cleared the campaign earlier this year.

    Following a recommendation from the FEC, a federal court last week fined the now-defunct Hyundai of North Jacksonville nearly $68,000 for improperly reimbursing workers who contributed to the Buchanan's campaign from 2005 to 2007. Buchanan was partial owner of the dealership from 2004 to 2008.

    Company owner Sam Kazran says he was acting on Buchanan's directions.

      OK, I am not. All of them are owned by Wall Street and corporations. Lets get our government back to being for the people, not the corporations/powerful that can buy them.

      Even if they are not bought when they get elected they are bought soon after that. We have to find a way to keep money from deciding policy, and Occupy Movement is a start as they are protesting and bringing attention to the owners of the politicians (OK Wall Street doesn't own all of the politicians, but they do own a majority of them in both parties).

      We need to flush that shithole in DC of all incumbents. They do not have you and your families best interest in mind, they care about one thing only...their re-election! Most of the corrupt pricks in DC have been there for most of their adult lives, getting re-elected every couple of years and becoming multi-millionaires along the way.

      Once we clean that place out, we adopt a TERM LIMITS ammendmant to our Constitution that will return that place to the true citizens of this country....not the bought-and-paid-for corrupt bsatards that work there now.

      Speaker Boehner Triples Fund to Deny Protections to Gay and Lesbian Couples

      When the Obama Administration determined that they couldn’t mount a legal defense to the Defense of Marriage Act – the law that denies federal recognition to legally married gay and lesbian couples – House Speaker John Boehner entered into a contract with private attorneys to defend the law in court with a cap of legal fees at $500,000. A new contract that was revealed today increases that amount to $1.5 million.

      Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese issued the following statement:

      “There seems to be no limit to how much taxpayer money the House Republican leadership is willing to spend to keep this discriminatory law on the books. At a time when budgeting is the watchword in Washington, Americans will be rightly aghast at this boondoggle for right-wing lawyers. The Defense of Marriage Act singles out same-sex couples for unfair treatment and no amount of money can overcome the fact that it flies in the face of our cherished constitutional principles.”
