Feminists protest Rush Limbaugh with ‘Flush Rush’ toilet paper stunt

While some of radio host Rush Limbaugh’s opponents have called for more civilized discourse, the Missouri chapter of the National Organization for Women spent Monday voicing its displeasure at Limbaugh with toilet paper — or a lack of it.

As part of their “Flush Rush” campaign to keep the state from honoring the radio giant with a bust in the Hall of Famous Missourians, the group delivered 504 rolls of toilet paper to the office of Republican House Speaker Steven Tilley, KMOX NewsRadio 1120 reports.

“Rush Limbaugh is a misogynist and a bigot and a bully and we don’t need a role model like that in Missouri,” said Claire Major, the vice president of the Missouri NOW chapter, explaining why his head should not be featured in the Hall. (RELATED: Complete coverage of Rush Limbaugh)

Missouri’s KRCG reported Monday afternoon that Tilley, who decided to honor the Cape Girardeau native, told reporters he does not intend to change his mind.

“No, because I thought it through,” he answered when asked if he was second-guessing his decision. “I knew he was going to be a controversial choice. I knew they would hold him to a different standard than we’ve held any other person to the Hall of Famous Missourians.”

Tilley added that he will be donating the toilet paper to local homeless shelters.

“I would encourage them to send as much toilet paper as they would like, because I’m just going to donate it to one of the homeless shelters or one of the Catholic charities.”

Limbaugh’s addition to the Hall has brought added opposition and scrutiny following comments he made last month about a 30-year old Georgetown Law student and contraception advocate. He has since apologized for his words.

Limbaugh’s bust will join the likes of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (aka Mark Twain), Walter Cronkite, Sacagawea, Walt Disney and Ginger Rogers.

Missouri’s NOW is also encouraging its supporters to mail more toilet paper squares to Tilley.

Ultimately, many of the photos and cellphone records of Trayvon Martin released online Thursday by George Zimmerman’s defense attorneys – indicating that the slain teenager smoked marijuana, got into fights at school, and had an interest in, and perhaps access to, guns – may be ruled inadmissible in court. But they are already making the rounds in the court of public opinion, which can influence everything from fundraising efforts to the mind-set of potential jurors in Mr. Zimmerman's murder trial.

    • Magnitude 5.7 quake strikes Northern California

(Reuters) - A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Northern California on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter of the quake was 6 miles northwest of the town of Greenville, and near the smaller community of Canyondam, the USGS said. There were no immediate reports of injuries. Allen Shephard, a hunting and fishing guide at Quail Lodge at Lake Almanor in Canyondam, said the quake knocked him "right off the couch and onto the floor." The floor of the lodge was littered with broken dishware, and cabinets were in disarray, said Shephard, 62. ...
