Ferguson's 'weekend of resistance' in tweets, photos, video

Thousands of people took to the streets of St. Louis over the weekend In what was billed as a "weekend of resistance" to protest police violence.

With police in riot gear looking on, demonstrators took part in marches, vigils and other spontaneous sit-ins two months after the fatal shooting of black teenager Michael Brown by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, in nearby Ferguson. The demonstrations were captured in photos and video posted to social media by journalists, protesters and other observers.

At least 17 people were arrested for "unlawful assembly" outside a QuikTrip convenience store, police said. Police Chief Sam Dotson tweeted that some protesters had thrown rocks at police. Several other clashes between police and protesters took place, but the demonstrations were otherwise largely peaceful.
