Filipinos still trapped on roofs; typhoons kill 59

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Floodwaters are slowly receding in many parts of the Philippines after two typhoons that killed nearly 60 people.

Some people are still stranded on rooftops and local officials are appealing for more rescuers and boats to bring them down.

Mayor James de Jesus of worst-hit Calumpit town north of Manila said Monday that at least 15 villages were still inaccessible.

He says evacuation centers are crowded and cannot accommodate any more families.

At least 59 people were killed by two typhoons that hit the northern Philippines days apart last week. Typhoon Nalgae killed at least three people Saturday. It is headed for China's Hainan Island and central Vietnam.

The operators of the Dams should be investigated why they let loose so much water without a sufficient area for the water to seep thru. Perhaps, they should have built a much bigger dam. These dams have been operating for so long and never been upgraded. Meralco and the National Electrification people should funnel part of their huge profits into building a larger dam. Our electricity is quite high compared with other nations.

If you can not understand the deroagaotry coments about the Filipinos then call the Sprint call centers or TM or any other company that cuts corners and quality to save a buck.

hmm i remember when Hurricane Katrina hits america, there is a evacuation there, looting, raping eachother instead of helping your fellow americans who's in need. before you put your comment here try to clean up your own backyard first.

Ya and you stupid Filipinos will always have major barangay flooding, trash dump avalanches, thousands of totally unsanitary squatter villages, so-called "houses" that are nothing more then flimsy cardboard shacks, no education for most kids, for one simple reason: Filipinos keep on voting for the same corrupt elites that keep you dumb and poor. Nothing will change until you really clean out the elite crowd that always stays in power and keep each other in power regardless of political party. The only difference between the P-Noy crowd and the F. Marcos crowd are the faces. The structure stays in place. Ever notice that in spite of all the corruption charges no one ever goes to jail? None of the Marcos crowd, none of the Arroyo crowd and none of the Aquino crowd will ever go to jail. Steal millions of pesos from the government and if caught don't worry, you'll never see jail. Steal a few grams of rice from 7-11 and you'll spend 5yrs in jail. You say the Filipino will recover. But you won't see the drains cleared, you won't see the squatter villages cleaned up, you won't see an end to barangay corruption, or police corruption and you won't see any change in overall life cause you stupid Filipinos apparently "like it this way."

Not sure what gods you are talking about? If it were God with a capital "G" then yes, but gods? I am afraid not.

You really should learn the difference. There is a big difference.

Two typhoons in less than a week. Not a senator, congressman or President to be seen in the disaster areas! Why does every politician need a fleet of 3 million peso Ford Expeditions to ride from mall to mall in Makati and Ortigas while the rescue services have little or no equipment to deal with natural calamities? Why are streets still flooded after a week? Why does the capital flood after every rain? Why don't the people hold their elected officials accountable and demand services common to other countries? Until the people DEMAND accountability and services they will always be under the yoke of the families that control congress.
