Film trailer: 'The Avengers' with Downey Jr., Hemsworth, Johansson and Renner

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America in 'The Avengers'

The second trailer for the sci-fi adventure The Avengers was released February 29, assembling an all-star cast of Marvel superheroes with lots of action.

War has started. Hopelessly outgunned, Nick Fury of the international peacekeeping agency S.H.I.E.L.D. must bring together a team of superheroes for the Avengers Initiative, packed with enough power to save the planet.

The group reluctantly assembles: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, The Black Widow and Hawkeye -- played by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner.

The footage opens on a ravaged street, revealing the superheroes fighting each other in the midst of an epic battle growing stronger, and closes as Iron Man is chased by a monstrous destruction machine.

Also starring Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Tom Hiddleston (War Horse) as the villainous Loki, plus the voice of Lou Ferrigno, the original Hulk, the movie is directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

The Avengers opens April 25-27 in Australia, the UK and Europe, Brazil and markets across South America, the Middle East and Asia. Then it rolls out May 1-4 in North America, Russia, India and other countries.
