Convenience store and gas station coming to former downtown Sheetz

A Mart Plus is expected to open in late June at the former Sheetz store near downtown Hagerstown, according to CEO Jamil Malik.

Malik, who also is CEO of Penny Mart, said in a news release that the Mart Plus at 301 E. Washington St. will have a gas station and offer convenience items and hot and cold food options. It will be open 24/7.

This will be the third site for Mart Plus, which also operates in Frederick, Md., he said.

Crenshaw's becomes Spoonire Auto Repair

Crenshaw's Auto Repair in downtown Hagerstown is now Spoonire Auto Repair after Howie Weeks sold the business to Ashley Davis in March, Davis and Weeks said.

Weeks, who owned Crenshaw's for 21 years, said he is retiring. He said he will probably continue to help out at the 67 W. Baltimore St. auto repair shop through the end of May. Weeks said he took the business over from Willie Crenshaw, who had the business for about 13 years.

"I've enjoyed it. I like the business and I really enjoy my customers," said Weeks, 66, of Hagerstown.

Mechanic Robert Korpisz is staying on with Spoonire's.

Davis said she's "excited to fill the shoes for Howie," and glad Weeks is helping with the transition.

Davis has experience working in the auto repair business. Her fiance, Richard Spoonire, owns Spoonire Auto Service, which relocated from Boonsboro to Sharpsburg about a year ago. Spoonire will help oversee the downtown Hagerstown business, she said.

The shop will continue to offer the same services and operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.
