Fundraising for RNC 'ahead of schedule' but more work is to be done
The MKE 2024 Host Committee is "ahead of schedule" toward raising an estimated $68 million for the Republican National Convention, a top convention official said without specifying how much has been raised.
“We still have some more work to do but we’re very fortunate that we’ve had some good success, had great support in the Milwaukee area and nationwide,” Alison Prange, chief operating officer of MKE 2024 Host Committee, said at an event for downtown businesses Monday. “We’re a little ahead of schedule, we’ve still got more work to do. We’re working to wrap things up by the end of May.”
The Republican National Convention is scheduled to be in Milwaukee for July 15-18.
Sponsors can get certain perks if they donate enough money, the Journal Sentinel previously reported. For example, for $5 million sponsors can attend the welcome party or the convention concert. Sponsors can have their logo on signage and credentials, VIP access to convention events and the opportunity to host its own event highlighting its business.
Prange said the committee has a certain amount of hotel rooms for partners of the convention and already it's showing some impact.
“They’re very excited and some of them are getting their events planned,” Prange said.
The host committee is also in charge of organizing volunteers for the event.
The committee has estimated it needs about 6,000 volunteers to help make the convention go smoothly.
Prange said there are roughly 2,500 volunteers signed up so far.
