JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A German-based manufacturer has chosen Johnson City as its first U.S. location.

The creation of the site represents a $3.1 million investment by BorTec and is expected to create 35 new jobs.

“Tennessee’s pro-business climate and strong workforce continue to attract global brands like BorTec,” Lee stated in a news release from the ECD. “I thank this company for creating greater opportunity for families across Northeast Tennessee, and I’m proud to welcome them to the Volunteer State.”

“Washington County is thrilled to have attracted a new company to our community,” State Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) stated. “We are looking forward to working with BorTec toward a long and prosperous future.”

According to the release, the BorTec facility will primarily produce “wear and corrosion-resistant pipes for the oil and gas industries.”

BorTec, a subsidiary of BorTec Group, will more than double its global headcount by investing in the Johnson City facility. The company was established in Germany in 1998 and specializes in “metal wear protection solutions.”

“TVA and BrightRidge congratulate BorTec on its decision to establish operations in Johnson City,” TVA senior vice president of economic development John Bradley said. “Helping to support companies creating jobs and investment in the region is fundamental to TVA’s mission of service. We are proud to partner with the City of Johnson City, Washington County Economic Development Council, Northeast Tennessee Valley Regional Industrial Development Association and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to further that mission and look forward to BorTec’s future business success.”
