Half of Denver homeowners are in this age group

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver has one of the highest populations of homeowners in the 25 to 44 age group nationwide, with just under half, or 49.5%, of homeowners being in this group, according to a new analysis by MoneyGeek.

This is the sixth highest percent share in the U.S.

This city is twice as expensive to rent in than in Denver

According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the median age in Denver is 35.1 years old, with around 40.3% of the population in the city being between the ages of 25 and 44.

The cities with the highest percentage of homeowners aged 25 to 44 are:

  1. Somerville, Massachusetts – 54%

  2. Killeen, Texas – 52.4%

  3. Clarksville, Tennessee – 50.5%

  4. Austin, Texas – 50.1%

  5. Hillsboro, Oregon – 50%

Denver was not the only Colorado city to be featured on the MoneyGeek list.

Boulder had a high concentration of young homeowners, with 22.1% of homes being owned by people under 25. This was the 11th-highest city nationwide.

This is compared to Denver, where only 5.4% of homeowners are under 25. This is only slightly higher than the national average of 5%.

Pueblo is also extremely popular among older homeowners, according to the data, with the fifth-highest share of 65 and older homeowners. Around a third of homes in the city, 33.3%, are owned by people over the age of 65.

In Denver, those aged 65 and up only make up 17.8% of all homeowners, the second-lowest demographic in the city.
