What rue21 stores are closing in Florida as company files for third banktuptcy?

Teen fashion retailer rue21 is closing all its stores after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the third time.

The Warrendale, Pennsylvania-based chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Thursday and is shuttering all of its stores nationwide.

According to Reuters, rue21 attempted to sell its business but offers were lower than the company could make by liquidating inventory the company said in court documents.

The fashion retailer operates 543 stores, including 30 locations across Florida, and employs 4,900 people, Reuters reported.

rue21 has filed for bankruptcy for the third time

This is the retailer's third time filing for bankruptcy. The company previously filed in 2003 and 2017, closing 400 stores and cutting about $700 million in debt, per USA TODAY.

The chain's current debt is $194.4 million, according to Reuters.

rue21 will be holding large "going out of business" sales over the next two months, including its intellectual property, ahead of closing its stores, according to court documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, Reuters reported.
