Finola Hughes Talks General Hospital's 50th Anniversary, Her Love Of Dancing With The Stars

Finola Hughes has called the upcoming 50th anniversary of "General Hospital" a "really sweet" moment.

"I think the fact that we, at 'GH,' are doing so well right now, and to enter into our 50th anniversary on such a high, it feels really sweet," the actress, who plays Port Charles Police Chief Anna Devane, told Access Hollywood, when asked about the daytime drama's impending anniversary.

Being a part of the cast again on a full-time basis has brought a myriad of new acting opportunities for Finola - including working with Anthony Geary's Luke Spencer, who Anna had a brief romance with recently on the show (one which seemed to finally be put to rest earlier this week when Anna told Luke she wanted to pursue things with Duke Lavery).

"I've always wanted to work with Tony. Our paths crossed right as I was leaving the show [before], and I got to play one scene with him," Anna told Access when we visited the set of the ABC soap. "Coming back and having an opportunity to work with him has been just such a gift."

Recently, Finola has been paired again on screen with Ian Buchanan who played - at first Faison, in disguise as Duke, and now, once again, the real Duke. The two share a connection off-screen, which she admitted does make those smooches a little amusing.

"It is kind of weird," Anna laughed. "He's the godfather to my middle child and whenever we kiss, we always laugh because it's so funny. But we played [a] romantic couple for years and I think what we celebrate and love about the characters is just the flawed [nature of the pair]. And also, him being the bad guy and me being on the side of the good -- she wants to believe that that's going to change, but I think that your character is your character.

"But, yeah, it is weird playing the romantic side with Duke, but we embrace the sides that we love about each other, Ian and I," she added.

With "General Hospital" so close to celebrating its anniversary in April, and "Dancing with the Stars" returning in March on the same network, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a "GH" star on the reality competition and Access has an idea for the upcoming cast - Finola!

"I would love to do 'Dancing with the Stars,'" she said when Access posed the question. "It would be so much fun."

Finola has ballet in her background, previously appearing on the London stage, and later, dancing with John Travolta in "Stayin' Alive." (Remember THIS?)

The actress also is well-versed in all things "DWTS."

"I, of course, watched this last season like crazy because Kelly [Monaco, who plays Sam McCall on "GH"] was on," Finola said. "It just looks like a blast. Yeah, it would be great."

"General Hospital" airs weekdays on ABC.
