PLEASANT CITY — A detached garage outside a Pipa Road residence near the Guernsey-Noble county line and a boat stored inside the one-story structure were damaged extensively by a fire Thursday evening.

An initial call reporting the blaze at 17573 Pipa Road indicated the garage was already fully engulfed in flames at the time of the call.

The caller advised a sheriff's dispatcher that while not attached to the home owned by Mark and Julie Lafollette, according to online records, it was close to the house.

Firefighters from the Pleasant City and Senecaville departments in Guernsey County and the Belle Valley department from Noble County were dispatched to the scene after the fire was reported at 5:26 p.m.

A dispatch log at the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office reported a caller advised a boat with 35 gallons of gas onboard was inside the garage. The gas tank exploded a short time later, according to firefighters.

The Noble County Sheriff's Office requested a salt truck on Shriver Road to assist a responding fire crew as a winter storm dumped that passed through the area Thursday dumped snow on local roadways.

No injuries were reported by residents or firefighters.

Firefighters remained at the scene until approximately 8 p.m.

Neither a cause nor a damage estimates were available. The contents of the garage also suffered smoke and water damage.

Attempts to contact the Pleasant City and Senecaville fire departments Friday to obtain additional information were unsuccessful.
