Fire crews investigate Saturday fire after Independence resident suffers minor injuries

An Independence resident suffered minor injuries following a fire Saturday morning.

At 8:55 a.m., fire crews responded to a reported fire in the 500 block of South Ash Avenue, according to Meg Lewis, a spokeswoman for the city of Independence.

Firefighters discovered flames and plumes of smoke emerging from the home and began to extinguish the fire immediately. After 15 minutes the fire was under control, Lewis said.

One resident was treated by emergency medical personnel for minor injuries.

The Independence Fire Department are continuing to investigate.
