Fire destroys detached garage and tractor in Goshen Township

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a tractor and a detached garage in 1500 block of Tabor Ridge Road NE on Tuesday morning.

A passerby alerted the owner to the fire in the shortly after 6:30 a.m., according to New Philadelphia Fire Chief Jim Parrish.

He said firefighters arrived at 6:45 p.m. to find a one-and-a-half-story garage fully involved in fire with flames coming from the roof.

Parrish said the garage was a few car lengths away from the house. Firefighters sprayed the house to keep it cool and minimize damage.

The home's siding and a window were damaged by the heat, Parrish said.

Parrish estimated the value of the loss of the detached garage and the tractor at $150,000.

Parrish said the fire started in the detached garage but the cause was unknown. The fire is not considered to be suspicious.

Firefighters remained on the scene for more than two hours.

Firefighters from Dover and Uhrichsville assisted.
