Fire destroys SUV, damages garage in Delano Township

Jul. 13—TRENTON — Fire destroyed a sport utility vehicle and heavily damaged a garage in Delano Township on Monday morning.

Firefighters were called just before 11 a.m. to an area along Trenton Road, a short distance from Delano Road, and found the SUV engulfed in flames parked next to a garage that was partially on fire.

A crew from Mahanoy City that arrived first deployed a hand line and entered the garage through a side door opposite the fire to stop its spread. Ryan Township firefighters arrived minutes later and used a deluge gun on the front bumper of their engine to quench the flames consuming the SUV and attacked the exterior fire of the garage.

Firefighters knocked down most of the blaze within 10 minutes and extinguished the fire completely shortly thereafter.

Early reports said someone might be trapped in the garage but emergency personnel later learned the missing person was in a neighboring community.

Ultimately, crews from Delano, Mahanoy City, Ryan Township, Hometown and McAdoo responded. A tanker task force was dispatched but canceled shortly thereafter when the fire was quickly brought under control.

Ryan Township EMS and local fire police assisted.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
