Fast thinking and quick action allowed a man to grab his son out of a burning vehicle and take him to a safe place Monday, Nov. 8.

The fire department's report states the owner of the vehicle, Cameron Kennedy, said while he had been driving he noticed a little smoke. He pulled over on the side of the road and saw the fire coming from underneath the vehicle.

Kennedy, of Blythe, had been driving on Highway 80 East in Matthews when he noticed the smoke.

Boulineau said when the firefighters arrived, the car was fully involved; and, all occupants were out of the vehicle.

"A 1-3/4 attack line was deployed and extinguishment began. The fire was brought under control which had been extended from the vehicle into the ditch burning approximately 2,500 square feet of grass. The hood was removed to expose the engine compartment overhaul completed," states the report.

Once the vehicle was completely extinguished, it was turned over to a wrecker service.
