First Look At Oscar Isaac’s X-Men: Apocalypse Villain

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ has finally unveiled its titular villain… and the epic Marvel bad guy looks just as awesome as we hoped.

During San Diego Comic Con, director Bryan Singer revealed Apocalypse’s cool new look… with a rather impressive poster that was handed out to guests. Depicting Oscar Isaac’s villain, the shadow of Apocalypse looms over the burning remains of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Rather ominous… and it sets the tone for what’s likely to be the most destructive ‘X-Men’ movie yet.

But that’s not all – he’s also appeared on screen during some all-new footage…

Unfortunately, 20th Century Fox is yet to reveal their ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ footage online, so it looks as though we may have a bit of a wait before we see Apocalypse in all his glory. But lucky Comic Con guests at the Hall H panel got their first look at the epic villain.

And it seems they were impressed.

“We got to see Oscar Isacc as Apocalypse and he looks exactly like in the comics,” said Edward Douglas from Coming Soon. “Apocalypse can control other mutants and we see a scene where the X-Men are facing [him].”

Apparently, Apocalypse is sporting those classic blue lips with cables connecting from his main body to his arms. “He looks JUST LIKE in the comics,” said Douglas. “Exactly like in the comics.”

And that’s not all – it looks as though we also have a good description of what the Comic Con footage was all about… and it sounds as though Apocalypse is really getting under the X-Men’s skin.

“The footage opened with a nuclear explosion and we cut to Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey gasping, saying that she had seen the end of the world,” explained Douglas. Professor X (played by James McAvoy) tries to convince her it was just a dream… but we know all too well that she’s probably onto something.

“I’ve been called any things over many lifetimes,” says Apocalypse while the Professor discusses how humans have formed cults around the discovery of mutants throughout history. “Ra, Krishna, Yahweh…”

Apparently, the Professor’s friend, Rose Byrne, has investigated the appearance of one such mutant who appears throughout human history… and she presumably means Apocalypse.

“Apocalypse gives a big voiceover speech to the young mutants saying they’ve lost their way by following blind leaders. ‘Everything you’ve built will fall and from the ashes of the world, we’ll build a better one.’ Then we see Apocalypse in a hood as Magneto asks him ‘Who the f**k are you?’ and Apocalypse responds ‘Come and See’ as we get to see Oscar Isaac in the full costume.”

It’s Professor X who reveals that Apocalypse can control other mutants… and it seems this is what makes him most dangerous. “A bunch of [the X-Men] including Storm and Ben Hardy as Archangel [are] sided with Apocalypse.” And with Magneto and Psylocke joining them, it looks as though Apocalypse has found his four horsemen.

“Magneto uses his powers to pull a slumped-over Charles in a wheelchair towards him. We get a glimpse of all the characters… but just a shot of Nightcrawler, Jubilee and Psylocke. I didn’t even see Havoc and Cyclops only had one shot as well. We did see a quick Quicksilver shot. We don’t see their powers because that’s FX that is still being worked on.”

At this point, some titles appear which read: “Prepare for Apocalypse”. Mystique appears, claiming that a great storm is coming… and several different shots depict Professor X using Cerebro. He claims that Apocalypse has augmented his powers in some way. “I’ve never felt power like this before,” he said.

The footage ends with a glimpse of the iconic professor X – bald head, sat in a wheelchair and wearing a blue suit. And at this point, the crowd went wild.

It’s said that ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will be the epic conclusion to a trilogy which began with ‘X-Men: First Class’. What does that mean for our favourite X-Men? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But things aren’t looking good.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
