Some thought that the premise to forthcoming action-thriller ‘Tomboy, A Revenger’s Tale’ could have been a prank of some kind…

But here we have our first look at the movie - courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter - and its star, 'Fast & Furious’ alumnus Michelle Rodriguez.

She plays hired assassin Frank Kitchen on a mission of vengeance – and here’s the kicker – after he is turned from a man into a woman against his will by a rogue plastic surgeon.

The surgeon is played by Sigourney Weaver.

The movie is currently in production, being directed by Walter Hill, the veteran behind movies like 'The Warriors’, 'Red Heat’ and '48 Hours’, while Denis Hamill has penned the script.

Also among the cast are 'Monk’ star Tony Shalhoub and Anthony LaPaglia.

Who knows, the movie may turn out to be more sensitive than it sounds.

But it has already been blasted by LGBT groups since its announcement last year.

“We haven’t read the script, but it’s disappointing to see film-makers turning what is a life-saving medical procedure for transgender people into a sensationalistic plot device,” Nick Adams of Glaad (formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) told The Hollywood Reporter.

“We are at a crucial moment in the public’s understanding of transgender issues, and stories like these have the potential to undermine the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve.”

The organisation has previously chided Hollywood for failing to move with the times in terms of transgender issues, slating movies like 'Ted 2’, 'Get Hard’ and 'The Wolf of Wall Street’ for including homophobic and transphobic jokes.
