First Look: Star Trek Beyond Unveils New Alien

It looks as though ‘Star Trek Beyond’ is firmly underway… as a new alien species is revealed for the first time.

Appearing during a new video to promote the ‘Star Trek Beyond’ omaze contest – giving you a chance to appear in the movie – this cool new alien was revealed to the public.

But what is it? And will it play a significant role in the upcoming film?

Clearly, it looks as though practical effects are going to play a part in the upcoming ‘Star Trek’ sequel… and for fans of the original series, that’s bound to be a good thing. Of course, the production values are going to be a lot higher – no hastily-made masks or people with dodgy fashion sense here.

But this new creature certainly has a real ‘Star Trek’ look to it.

Depicting the head and shoulders, it’s unclear whether or not this alien will be getting a full body suit, or a more costumed look. And as for how he, she or it fits into the movie itself is entirely unknown.

We currently have no idea whether or not this creature will play a significant part in ‘Star Trek Beyond’ or will simply appear as a background creature. Either way, there’s one thing we can take away from this – director Justin Lin is putting a lot of effort into practical effects.

After all, this practical creature work looks incredible.

Whether this will extend to visual effects and locations remains to be seen. But at least we can be sure that there’s one new alien in ‘Star Trek Beyond’ that will be a guy in a rubber suit.

And that really puts a smile on my face.

‘Star Trek 3’ heads to cinemas on 8 July 2016.
