Every photo has a story, and on this Thanksgiving, Yahoo! News asked readers to share one photo, and the story behind it, that holds meaning for them. Here's one.
FIRST PERSON | Walking into my mom's kitchen on Thanksgiving in 2011, I was stopped short by the humble little menu posted on the cupboard door. The dessert list was impressive, as expected; my mom is a local baker/candy confectioner. Desserts are always the showcase of the holiday meal in her home.
But what threw me off guard was the paper it was written on.
Sixteen years earlier, my daughter had drawn a little cartoon of grandma that I had made into notepads as a quick, and inexpensive, gift. That funny little drawing was a poignant reminder of years gone by.
Eighteen years old now, and off to college as an accomplished artist, this was her very first "published" portrait.
And on just as personal a note, this was also the first year since my mom's brain surgery that I recognized her familiar handwriting. The combination of the two packed a very emotional punch.
