The first smartphone to get Lollipop isn’t even a Nexus
Google has yet to roll out the official Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for its existing Nexus smartphones, including the Nexus 5 and Nexus 4, but it looks like Motorola has already beaten its former parent company to the punch. Ars Technica reports that one 2014 Moto G model has already been updated to Lollipop, and it’s the U.S. unlocked model, which has now received its 386.8MB Android 5.0 update.

A few days ago, a report from the same publication suggested that the 2014 Moto X and Moto G could receive their respective Lollipop upgrades a lot sooner than initially expected, even before Google rolls out the update to Nexus tablets and smartphones.
Meanwhile, Android Police has stumbled upon what looks like the official Lollipop update for the 2012 version of the Nexus 7 on a Google server.
“We just happen to have signed factory images for Google’s original 7-inch tablet,” the publication wrote. “The build is LRX21P, which lines up with builds we’ve seen on the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player (LRX21L and LRX21M respectively). Our source tells us that these images are most likely final, but as with any leak, that can’t be said with certainty until we get something official.”
Google is yet to roll out the official Android 5.0 updates for its Nexus devices, but Nexus 7 (2012) owners can grab this Lollipop build directly from Android Police.
