Forget Apple Car: This Self-Balancing Motorcycle is a Better Idea

Even as luxury car company McLaren quashed rumors that it could be acquired by Apple, there could be a better-fitting automaker on the tech behemoth's plate: Motorcycle manufacturer Lit Motors.

The two companies have been in talks about an acquisition, according to unnamed sources cited by The New York Times.

Lit hasn't even made its first motorcycle for the public, but it has developed a way for motorcycles to stay upright, obviously a main concern for any motorcycle owner and what could be keeping many drivers from opting for a street-legal, motorized two-wheeler.

Lit's motorcycle, called the C-1, would be equipped with what the company calls a gyro stability system that uses a number of sensors that interpret information from the driver, the wheels and brakes to determine how to respond.

As you might expect, this motorcycle is electric and would cost about $24,000, or potentially less, depending on state and local incentives for owning electric vehicles=.

A recent report said Apple has laid off part of its car team working on the hardware side of its hush-hush Project Titan. By acquiring Lit and using its tech to make its own vehicle, Apple could create a tech-laden fashion accessory on two wheels. And talk about easy to use, it would be charged with your everyday wall socket.

Earlier this week, The New York Times and others reported on rumors that Apple was in talks to buy McLaren, but a McLaren spokesman who spoke with Reuters refuted that rumor.

Lit Motors didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Apple doesn't comment on rumors or speculation.
