Former Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested for assaulting inmate

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) charged a former Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office deputy for assaulting an inmate in January.

FCPD said that it learned about the assault on Jan. 3 when the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs notified it.

The assault happened in the booking area of the Adult Detention Center on Jan. 1 around 3:45 a.m., FCPD said. Police reported that Nicholas Vaszil, 28, assaulted an inmate after a verbal argument.

Vaszil was arrested and charged with simple assault on Tuesday.

FCPD said that the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office had terminated Vaszil on Jan. 30.
