We realize there's only so much time one can spend in a day watching new trailers, viral video clips, and shaky cell phone footage of people arguing on live television. This is why every afternoon The Atlantic Wire highlights the day's video clips that truly earn your five minutes (or less) of attention.

Every few weeks, like a plum from heaven, comes a clip from the new Ricky Gervais mockumentary series Life's Too Short to amuse and discomfort. In the first, he asked actor Warwick Davis, who is a dwarf, about the height of his doorbell. Then he tried to apologize to Johnny Depp for making fun of The Tourist at the Golden Globes. In the latest clip, he has to explain to Liam Neeson why AIDS isn't the best subject to tackle in an improv comedy sketch. Which itself doesn't sound very funny and seems destined to go off the tracks, but it doesn't. It's staggeringly funny and probably the best sustained six minutes of Gervais's career [YouTube via David Roth]

Lars von Trier is not the easiest person to work with. But as Kirsten Dunst explained on Conan last night, beneath the Nazi sympathizing and refusal to fly, he's just a big Danish kid who likes to take his pants off, because he thinks it's funny, and slap people on the rear, which he also thinks is funny. Who does that guy think he is, an American in a Lars von Trier movie? [Team Coco]

Haskell Wexler is the greatest cinematographer in the history of American film. At the age of 89, he's taken to dropping by the Occupy protests in Los Angeles and, according to today's Los Angeles Times, has "begun posting short documentary vignettes online." The paper neglects to say where he's posting these videos online. Searches of YouTube and Vimeo turn up one video from October credited to the Medium Cool director. We can't authenticate it for sure, but the footage certainly looks more like something shot by Haskell Wexler than, say, a some guy with shaky hands holding a cell phone. [Vimeo]
Soft, dulcet sounds are good for putting real babies to sleep. But if you ever find yourself in the presence of an Internet baby -- the ones you seen in viral videos dancing along to Beyonce and generally not acting like babies -- just play Notorious B.I.G. and they'll go down for the night. Last Veteran's Day, Deadspin put together a fuzzy, terrific, sniffle-inducing compilation of dogs going nuts as their owners arrive home from overseas. Unfortunately because it's Veteran's Day weekend, the video is not embeddable. Thanks to the miracle of the search engine, we were able to track down a different compilation of America's enlisted men and women giving their dogs great big hugs.
