Everybody loves the Fourth of July, and if your kids are like mine, they can't wait to see the fireworks. Keeping them busy until dark can sometimes be a challenge. At your next Fourth of July gathering, why not set up a craft table for the kids with creative examples and supplies to keep them busy all afternoon? It's easier than you may think, and the supplies won't break the bank. Here are a couple quick ideas.
Red, White & Blue Foam Lapel Pins (See image)
Supplies:
Scissors
Red foam
Blue foam
Silver or white star sequins
Pin backs
Clear-drying glue
Instructions:
1) Cut a heart from the red foam, about 2" square
2) Cut a star from the blue foam, about 1-1/4" square
3) Glue the star to the upper left corner of the heart, letting it go off the edge slightly.
4) Glue several star sequins on top of both the heart and the star. Let dry.
5) Glue a pin back to the back of the heart.
Cardboard Roll Firecrackers
Supplies:
Cardboard
Scissors
Empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls
Assorted patriotic wrapping paper
Clear tape
Red, white and blue pipe cleaners
Instructions:
1) Cut a circle from the cardboard the size of the roll and poke a hole through the middle. Wrap it in colored paper and tape to secure on bottom side.
2) Insert one pipe cleaner of each color through the hole and bend the ends over enough to tape about 1/4 inch to the bottom side.
3) Tape this top to one of the rolls.
4) Wrap the roll in colored paper, twisting the top edge around the pipe cleaners coming out of the top. (Similar to wrapped candy.)Tape.
5) Bend the pipe cleaners in a zigzag fashion to assimilate sparks.
