Fox correspondent named senior Vatican communications adviser

VATICAN CITY - The Associated Press has learned that the Fox news correspondent in Rome has been brought in by the Vatican to help improve its communications strategy as it tries to cope with one of its most serious scandals in decades.

People familiar with the move told AP on Saturday that Greg Burke will become the senior communications adviser in the Vatican's secretariat of state.

Burke said Saturday he had no comment, as did the Vatican spokesman.

Burke, a member of the conservative Opus Dei movement, is a former Time magazine correspondent. Pope John Paul II's longtime spokesman, Joaquin Navarro-Valls, was also a member of Opus Dei.

The Vatican has been bedeviled by communications blunders ever since Pope Benedict XVI's 2005 election, and is currently dealing with a scandal over leaked documents.
