‘Bones’ Return Date Set as Fox Finalizes Post-‘American Idol’ Thursday Plans
As Fox says goodbye to “American Idol,” it will usher in a new reality series, “American Grit,” on Thursdays starting in April.
The network announced Wednesday that the military-inspired competition series, starring WWE superstar John Cena, will bow April 14 at 9. It follows the spring premiere of “Bones,” which hasn’t aired an original episode since Dec. 10.
“American Grit” will bow one week after “American Idol” wraps its 15-season run on April 7, and is scheduled to complete its 10-episode run in the summer.
The new series follows 16 of the country’s toughest men and women as they are split into four teams and face a variety of military-grade and survival-themed challenges set in the wilderness of Pack Forest in Eatonville, WA. Cena and an elite group of mentors from the nation’s most exclusive milirary units — including Navy Seal Commander Rorke Denver, Army Sergeant Noah Galloway, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Tawanda “Tee” Hanible and Army Ranger Nick “The Repear” Irving — will push these fierce competitors beyond their limits.
“American Grit” is produced by Leftfield Pictures and executive-produced by Brent Montgomery, David George, Adam Sher, Will Nothacker and Jon Kroll. John Cena also serves as executive producer.
“Bones” picks up after its fall finale with an episode that finds Hodgins (TJ Thyne) eight weeks into his rehabilitation and forced to navigate life in a wheelchair. Meanwhile, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) investigate the death of a public defender who had multiple defendants from previous cases with motives to kill her.
