Fox Picks Up Simon Kinberg and Neill Blomkamp-Produced ‘The Leviathan’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Twentieth Century Fox has picked up sci-fi spec “The Leviathan” with Simon Kinberg on board to produce and Neill Blomkamp exec producing.

It’s a natural fit, given Kinberg’s first-look deal with the studio and Blomkamp beginning to build a relationship with Fox after coming on to direct the next “Alien” pic. Fox’s Steve Asbell brought the pitch in and will oversee for the studio.

The idea comes from hot Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson, who is also attached to direct, with “Fight Club” screenwriter Jim Uhls penning the script. Aditya Sood joining Kinberg and Robinson as producers.

The project is set in the 22nd century, when mankind has colonized many worlds and traveling faster than the speed of light has been made possible by the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen.

Robinson recently made a three-minute concept video that has received 1.2 million views since going online and has helped build buzz for the potential feature film.

Robinson, who previously made “The Last Days on Mars,” is repped by 42 and WME. Blomkamp, who is also repped by WME, most recently directed “Chappie” and is currently developing the next installment in the “Alien” franchise for Fox.

Kinberg most recently produced Disney’s “Cinderella.” Uhls is repped by Paradigm and Anonymous Content.
