Frank Darabont could direct the "Snow White and the Huntsman" spin-off.

The "Mist" and "Green Line" director could be hired by Universal and Roth Films for the feature film, according to The Wrap.

After the success of the 2012 film ($396,600 million), Universal and Roth Films are preparing a "Snow White and the Huntsman" spin-off focusing on the Hunstman, played by Chris Hemsworth ("The Avengers," "Thor"). Snow White, played by Kristen Stewart ("Twilight"), might not even feature in the production.

Frank Darabont is one of the rumored directors. His last feature film, The Mist," dates back to 2007. Gavin O'Connor (Warrior," "Miracle") and Andrès Muschietti ("Mama") have also been mentioned as contenders.

Hemworth and Charlize Theron ("The Italian Job," "The Devil's Associate") are expected to return to their roles, although Kristen Stewart likely won't, or only for a very limited appearance.

Filming could take place in 2015 for a 2016 release but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Until then, Charlize Theron plays in "A Million Ways to Die in the West," which opened on May 30, and Chris Hemworth will be in "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," expected on May 1, 2015.
