Full Frontal With Samantha Bee explains how white people ruined Black History Month

February is the shortest month of the year ( Leap Day included), and yet it’s the only one that America dedicates to the celebration of African-American history. Even worse, as Samantha Bee pointed out on Monday’s episode of Full Frontal, are the politicians and pundits who invoke Black History Month to delegitimize modern black protestors. Bee invited one of her writers, Ashley Black, on stage with her to discuss how white people ruined Black History Month.

“Stop pretending you would’ve marched with Martin Luther King when you don’t like anyone who’s marched since,” Black said.

On cue, the host played clips of Fox News hosts saying things like, “I like Martin Luther King and I don’t like Black Lives Matter.” Black also pointed to Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump’s recent refusal to disavow David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan as proof that Black History Month doesn’t actually teach people anything. Black has a solution, though: Black Now Month.

“That’s why I’m starting Black Now Month: It’s when you stand up for black people who are alive now in real life and not just your imagination of the ’60s,” Black said.
