At fundraiser, Lady Gaga may or may not have chatted with President Obama

“Mother Monster” Lady Gaga attended a $35,800-per-couple fundraiser for President Barack Obama in northern California over the weekend. The 25-year-old Grammy winner didn’t sing, but she reportedly asked Obama a question during the Q&A, thanked him for all he’s done for the country, and read a letter about her late fan Jamey Rodemeyer.

“[Lady Gaga] thanked Obama for hosting his anti-bullying conference with Michelle Obama, and then made a general plea to everyone in the room, including the president, to do what they can to prevent bullying,” a source told ABC.

Obama reportedly talked about “his administration’s anti-bullying campaign, and then more generally about the importance of values and who we are as Americans.”

Though ABC reports that the performance artist spoke with Obama for two whole minutes, the White House press pool report from the event states that it’s unclear whether the pop sensation and politician met up with each other.

“POTUS spoke for about 8 minutes, with Lady Gaga sitting front and center,” reads the report. “And although he never acknowledged her obvious presence, it seems likely the two crossed paths during greetings inside the house before the dinner.”

Also according to the pool report, Lady Gaga sported “sky-high heels (she towered over everyone, a good 2 feet taller than POTUS)…[and] a floor-length sleeveless lacy black dress.” At the presidential gathering, the “Born This Way” singer also had a bouffant hair up-do “with a black hair piece with a black veil down the back.”

If she and the president didn’t talk, she broke her word. Last week, the pop singer tweeted that she would meet with Obama to discuss the bullying issue.

“I am meeting with our President,” Lady Gaga tweeted following the suicide of bullied fan Rodemeyer. “I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey.” (MORE: Lady Gaga: Bullying must become illegal)

After Rodemeyer’s tragic suicide, Lady Gaga wrote that she believes bullying should become a federal offense.

“Jamey Rodemeyer, 14 yrs old, took his life because of bullying,” Lady Gaga tweeted Wednesday. “Bullying must become be [sic] illegal. It is a hate crime.”

Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old gay male from Buffalo, made an “It Gets Better” YouTube video earlier this summer to urge outcasts and the bullied to keep going and brush off the mean kids.

“It gets better,” Rodemeyer advised YouTube users in May. “Look at me, I’m doing fine. I went to the Monster ball and now I’m liberated, so it gets better.”

Rodemeyer took his life a little more than a week ago. In his last blog posts he wrote about wanting to see his late great-grandmother, and thanked Lady Gaga.

There are actually whole cultures where child bullying is almost non-existent. I have lived in them so I am sure of this. Namely Scandinavian countries where people also have the highest happiness index and highest standard of living and the world's highest longevity. What I noticed is the adults there are still nobody's fool and never push-overs. You have been living in this sad, disgusting world your entire life and have no idea that anything else could exist. Respectfully, you are entirely wrong and Lady Gaga is onto something.

I deplore the increase in bullying. I think it is terrible that people are treated horribly due to the insensitive actions of others. I am also puzzled as to why celebrities, normal people, and everyone else expects the government to pass laws, enact regulation and "fix" the problem for them. The government is not the answer to everything. Laws are meaningless when they attempt to address a moral problem.

Bullying starts at home. Parents need to be involved and teach children the correct way to treat each other. We have become a society full of people who think it is OK to laugh and mock everyone. Now, we have lost the capacity for compassion and tact. The president can't fix that. The government can't fix that. Only the very people who raise out children can fix that: parents. Raise your own kids- teach them right from wrong, and within a generation or two the problem will be fixed. The sad part about all of this is that the majority of parents want to laugh and mock others right along with their kids...too concerned with being their friends than their parents. That is the root of the problem exactly.

Your mistake is calling this bullying a moral problem. It is illegal to humiliate, harass or make a person the object of ridicule. The school should have taken action.

If only the rest of the world thought this way!
      • Slacker5 8 mths ago
it is a moral problem though. There shouldn't need to be laws put in place for harassment, and there wouldn't if this issue was being addressed in the home. Then again, a lot of parents bully their own children and pass it off as "child rearing." Yeah, there is a difference between disciplining a child and wrecking a child's life just because you have issues left over from your own childhood.

If a parent doesn't have self respect, they can't teach it to their children...and those children will have no clue to show respect (or civility) to others.

My nephew was suspended for standing up for himself. The bully he'd finally had enough of? Nothing was even said to this kid because his parents are trouble - making jerks. If schools aren't going to stand up to bullies or the parents of bullies, don't punish kids when they stand up for themselves.

gov't schools are designed to make followers.

That’s an excellent point, J. This is sort of like pro football, where the player who retaliates gets the flag. The original crap that caused the retaliation almost never draws one! Your nephew just paid a little higher price for his integrity and self-respect than is asked of many others. It's similar to being forced to defend yourself against an attacker and then ending up in jail because of it. If that's the price I have to pay to stay alive, so be it! Your brother or sister should demand the right to have a comment entered in your nephew's records that your nephew was acting in self defense. I would also send a written complaint the school principle and the District Superintendant saying the same thing.

the parents of that bully are guilty of
Contributing to the delenquency of a child, I would demand they were arrested on that charge. then they would teach thier evil little prick bully child how to behave & treat other kids with respect

When a country has to legislate what should be taught at home, That is the true sign we are in trouble as a society.

Sadly, a lot of parents are spreading their hatefulness to their children. Children are being TAUGHT to bully by being told that being different isn't alright.

They squawk ab out government interference, Well if they'd do their jobs as parents the Government wouldn't have too

I'm reading some of these comments and I understand where everyone is coming from, valid points for sure. There is a lot of s*** to clean up in our country because it's going down the toilet. They should take care of home as far as jobs/unemployment, the war, economy etc. However, I do agree there is more that has to be done as far as bullying goes. I live in Philly and the school district has the rules and doesn't enforce them. My son was bullied TERRIBLY in school and it has effected him. I told him to stand up for himself and I do things and put him in activities to give him confidence etc. I have been to meetings at the school, with teachers, parents, wrote notes, have documentation etc, it did not help. Even the school district didn't help, it was like talking to a brick wall. People who have been bullied it does effect them even in adult years. Sure, at one point, we all got picked on, maybe, but it was different than it is now especially with all the technology, it makes it worse because people can hide behind a keyboard. I don't think the President has to get involved per se (because there are bigger problems here) but this is one of the many that should be addressed as well. This should handled more on a city/town level than a Presidential level. Maybe she said what she said so maybe he can put a fire under someone's #$%$ But bottom line, a lot of it starts from HOME.

We were in the same boat at my son's old school, and now my cousin is having a similar issue with her daughter and that school. School officials aren't paid to care. They are just there to collect a paycheck by making sure the kids go to class.
      • KiKi 8 mths ago
That's a shame, I feel for you. It's horrible because the kids start disliking school. I can write two to three pages on what has happened with my son. It got so bad, I'm homeschooling him now. He likes it so much better too. In Philly, when kids are in elementary school, they have to go to their assigned neighborhood school period, there is no choice, unless you pay for private school. I looked into that it was so expensive and they couldn't meet my son's needs (that was the deciding factor because I could have found grants to help me pay for the schooling). But, since I ran into walls, I made a change to save him because it was affecting him mentally. Yes, they are just there to get paid and go home. That's a problem today too, no one cares anymore, they are out for themselves, there is no respect for anything or anyone and people turn their heads. I'm not like this "we are the world, peace and love" person (LOL), but there has to a baseline level of respect, foundation and morals and that's what lacking today, not with kids, but with adults too. Sometimes look at these adults and then check out the kids and it's like well no wonder LOL.

All of you sick people keep saying to teach your kids to fight to prevent bullies. I'm a 5'2 fifteen year-old girl. The people who bully me are 6 ft males on the football team. You expect me to fight them? Not everyone can face their tormenter.
      • Kristiana 7 mths ago
yes you can! you can tell other people who can help you out! just because people that bully are bigger then you are doesnt mean you cant do anything about it! and fighting them is never the right answer unless you need to define yourself right then!
      • . 7 mths ago
        Meelah you are correct.
    • Macayla  •  8 mths ago
the reason bullying is happening is that parents are becoming too uninvolved, parent's aren't around to show that violence and being mean is wrong...plus the internet makes it possible for people to show hate more strongly because you hide behind a computer...it makes me sick that people are getting meaner and meaner in this society...so much for staying united much love goes out to the family and to those being bullied...stay strong!!! those who bully are just insecure or ashamed or being bullied themselves SHARE THE LOVE =]
    • leonard  •  8 mths ago
you stop bullying by throwing a left hook and break the bullys' jaw.
    • Eric  •  8 mths ago
Interesting request. Maybe the President could start in his Attorney General's office and ask Mr. Holder to quit his bullying of Gibson Guitars.
    • Miriam  •  8 mths ago
Ok now back to bullying...what kind of homes these kids come from ? Children pick up the views of their parents..So parents watch what you say around your kids. they take it and run with it,......Personally I feel gay kids are born that way..Watch them from young you can see they are different..Dont blame them for what they cant helpStop your kids from bullying
    • Chris Humphreys  •  8 mths ago
So instead of pleading with president why dont people actually teach there kids how to defend themselves and self estem like my parents and parents of my genteration did. Might stop it
    • Erin D.  •  8 mths ago
Bullying is wrong, but to make a law to ban "bullying" puts WAY too much power in the hands of government. Where is the line between bullying and freedom of speech? I was bullied relentlessly in school. It sucked. I think schools should absolutely tackle the issue and that students who bully others should face harsh penalties/suspensions from school. I would never support a law that bans bullying simply because it could, and most likely WOULD, be used to stifle our freedom of speech. I may hold a view that you don't like, and you may find it offensive for me to voice that view, especially if you engage in something that I vocally oppose. You may even feel bullied, but I would never bully anyone. Speaking out against something can too easily be construed as bullying, so I will never support such a law. Such a law would be unconstitutional. Also, "hate crime" is unconstitutional as it causes people to not be treated as equals, but gives some extra protection over others. Crime should be punished, but the race/gender/other characteristic of the victim should not cause the crime to be considered worse or not as bad as the same crime perpetrated on someone with different characteristics.

I was once bullied in high school and I agree with most of the posters on here about the best way to stop a bully is to knock the living #$%$ out of them….However, kicking a bully’s a.s.s can also be a double edge sword, because nowadays we don’t have tough kids, what we have are a bunch of PUNKS who are quick to bring a gun to school for revenge and shoot indiscriminately. Back then when I was in school, it was handled mano a mano, we settled the fight like men and moved on. What we need to do is to reinstate Corporal Punishment back in every school, because in my opinion, I think every bully is scared of a good horse whipping.

I agree that Bullying needs to be stopped. But it is up to the PARENTS to teach the kids down the right path. I have literally watched teenagers playing fire extinguishers, spraying peoples cars with them, and among things. I pray everyday that when my kids get older that they know bullying is not right... But here is a question: What are the school districts doing about the bullying at school? What can they possibly do but send notes home to the parents, after-school detention, suspension? The same thing when it comes to adults. I'm sure they're are adults in the US that still bully as they did growing up... Surely they are not setting the right example for their children.
    • KYLE  •  8 mths ago
Everyone has been bullied in their lives. Believe it or not bully's teach us problem solving skills. Of coarse there is a point to where bullying turns into a crime. But we do NOT need the government to take control of our lives. Parents are the ones to teach their children to either defend themselves or communicate with the bully. QUIT BEING LAZY and raise your children!

I remembered when I was young and was being picked on. My classmates were always tripping me and calling me names. All the adults told me to confront my classmates and let them know how much the bullying was hurting my feelings. If any of you remember what is was like as a kid, you can imagine how effective that was. The bullying stopped when I said enough is enough. After being tripped in the mud, I went up to the kid and punched him in the face so hard, I broke his nose. Guess what? They bullying stopped

I appreciate her effort and all, but there really is no law you could make that would make people respect each other.
