KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan officials, dignitaries and family members attended the funeral Thursday for a provincial governor assassinated in a high-profile bombing earlier this week.
The ceremony for Logar Gov. Arsallah Jamal was held at a mosque in Kabul. He was buried later in a cemetery in the Afghan capital.
A bomb killed Jamal as he delivered a speech Tuesday at the main mosque in the Logar capital of Puli Alam to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
Jamal was the highest ranking official killed in recent months.
No group has claimed responsibility for the killing, but it bore the hallmarks of a Taliban attack. They have been fighting the Afghan government and foreign troops since the U.S. invasion in late 2001.
