Ok, the phones are smart now, but how smart is it to pay an extra 50-something bucks a month just so you can check sports or the stock market 5 minutes before you get home?
      • Damn You 3 mths ago
Yep... the phones are smart... the users, not so much

HA! That IS a good one, B.C. :)

Yeah, the funny thing is, they sell these things like they are a productivity booster, yet it's the younger generation that works retail or fast food that uses them most. I got rid of my cellphone because its a pain in the #$%$ and I dont care that you needed to tell me something RIGHT NOW!

Never understood the popularity of these things, a basic cell phone is much more user friendly & a laptop at home works great !

I live far enough in the country that I cannot get cable or DSL internet. Satellite requires me to pay hundreds for a dish or more in a monthly rental fee.

I can't wait until they take off the GB limits of some of these packages. I was so happy to have wireless internet through US Cellular for a while - until my computer downloaded an automatic update and I was charged $278 one month...

I LOVE my POTS line. Got an ole genuine Bell black dial phone across the newer phone line. Old Bell handset is LOUD & CLEAR! I don;t need no steeeekeeeeng cell phony phone.

I still have a stars and stripes themed candlestick rotary phone. My kids have no idea what it is, lol.

And I've never owned a cell phone in my life or paid for either satellite or cable television. I don't feel as if I'm missing a thing and I suspect that I'm saving over $1,500.00 a year by "foregoing" these "necessities."

It amazes me that in twenty odd years we can no longer get by with planning our day out in the morning and ending it at night without being bombarded with constant information and communication that, in the big scope of things, are nothing but distractions all day long. I am 52 yrs old and way back when, growing up, we had one home phone and a really good network of friends and neighbors to rely on. Now, it seems to me if you are not "connected", you will lose out on some sort of great deal or miss what someone said or even, God forbid, not get that all important text telling you to LOL at some silly comment .Granted, all this is fun and cool, but is it necessary? I felt the same way about the internet but now I see the wisdom in having instant info at your fingertips........all the while fearing that some hacker is stealing your personal information or giving your machine a virus just to make your life miserable. All of this has a place but I'm just not sure if it deserves the "GOTTA HAVE IT " stature we give it. Well, gotta go and check my stocks! LOL

degree by which normal public/social interaction will be retarded and privacy eradicated due to non-stop and ubiquitous "smartphone" use by 2016: 99%
      • DAVID 3 mths ago
Well stated. You might add that a large number of people who really cannot afford these things are signing up in droves for the latest and greatest technolgy probably because it of what they saw on their overpriced cable t.v. commercial, telling them that their outdated 3 month old phone is "so 28 seconds ago".

First of all the prices have got to come down, and the itelligence of the population will have to increase or most purchases will be solely for bling purposes...like jewlery is.
    • Breadman  •  3 mths ago
One would think that a device that is marketed as a cell phone would actually work as a cell phone.......

The phones are so smart that we give them $60 a month so they will let us play angry birds.
    • Topkick  •  3 mths ago
The bright side of this apparently inevitable phenomenon is that at least something on Earth will be getting smarter!
      • ken 3 mths ago
i disagree. earth will only be getting dumber.

Don't want one...Don't need one...Don't know what I'd do with it if I had one !!

PhoneTechnology should respond to market demand, however it seems that it is trying to dictate to the market. Sure there are niche markets for those who want purely entertainment features, those who just wnat business features, those who wish to mix business and pleasure......but then there is quite a large market for those who want a phone personalized for just making calls and sending text messages minus the additional charges for added "bells and whistles" features which they never and seldom ever find the need to use. In the case of the latter; that is one market that dislikes being dictated to, about what "additional" but unused services they should pay for when they need a basic Phone.

I don't like the small screens of Smartphones.
    • Max Reiner  •  3 mths ago
I will keep my simple and stupid POTS hard wired line phone. It don't gimme no jive.
    • SeekTruth  •  3 mths ago
Great news!! In the meantime half a billion children in the world are malnourished and 2 million die each year. At least we will be able to post their pictures on our smartphones.
    • Larry  •  3 mths ago
i'll never want to use one. you spend so much service for no more than what they are. my advice? add an computer to your basic cell phone. much cheaper that way.

A 6-year-old and a 4-year-old are upstairs in their bedroom. "You know what?" says the 6-year-old. "I think it's about time we start cussing." The 4-year-old nods his head in approval. The 6-year-old continues. "When we go downstairs for breakfast I'm going to say hell and you say #$%$" "OK!" The 4 year old agrees with enthusiasm.Their mother walks into the kitchen and asks the 6-year-old what he wants for breakfast. "Aw hell, Mom, I guess I'll have some Cheerios."WHACK! He flies out of his chair, tumbles across the kitchen floor, gets up, and runs upstairs crying his eyes out, with his mother in hot pursuit, slapping his rear every step. The mom puts him in his room and shouts "You can just stay there till I let you out!"She then comes back downstairs, looks at the 4-year-old, and asks with a stern voice, "And what do YOU want for breakfast young man?To which he replies, "I don't know but you can bet your #$%$ it won't be Cheerios!"

Why do blacks who don't have money for health care all have money for Iphones, x-box, limited edition kicks, spinners, and tattoos?
    • Rob  •  3 mths ago
At first, I thought the monthly costs were ridiculous. but they add so much efficiency to your life that it's worth it... Full access to everything on the internet, Voice-Activated GPS Navigation, Email, Texts, Movie & Still Camera, Photo Gallery, MP3 Player, Games, Weather, Clock/Timers, Contact List, Notes & Reminders, Calendar, Calculator, Language Translator, Maps, Shopping, Bar Code Reader, and 400,000 apps to choose from for all kinds of things you never thought of before. I highly recommend Android over Apple if you want the latest technology, features, freedom to customize your phone, and 4G LTE.
