Gabrielle Giffords Released from Hospital

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been discharged from the Texas hospital where she has been receiving treatment for a gunshot to the head, five months after a gunman opened fire at an event she was hosting, according to USA Today. Here's what a doctor at the hospital has to say, via a statement the hospital posted a statement online saying Giffords would continue her outpatient therapy in in League City, Texas:

“Congresswoman Giffords has shown clear, continuous improvement from the moment she arrived at TIRR five months ago,” said Dr. Gerard Francisco, the hospital’s chief medical officer.

“We are very excited that she has reached the next phase of her rehabilitation and can begin outpatient treatment. We have no doubt that she will continue to make significant strides in her recovery.”

Giffords is due to move in with her astronaut husband, Navy Commander Mark Kelly, in League City, Texas, where she will continue physical therapy under the care of Dr. Francisco.
