The Galaxy S6 might launch sooner than you think

Yet another way the Galaxy S6 will give the iPhone 6 a run for the money

Samsung’s most important handset of the year will undoubtedly be the Galaxy S6, and a new report from South Korean publication ETNews seems to indicate that the flagship handset is supposed to launch even earlier than Samsung initially planned.

The report also seems to confirm the main Galaxy S6 camera will be a 20-megapixel shooter with optical image stabilization (OIS), a feature BGR exclusively detailed a few days ago. Apparently, Samsung’s Electro-Mechanics division, or SEM, will mass-produce this particular component and other parts for the upcoming top handset.

Thus, the Galaxy S6 is seen as one of the main growth factors for SEM during the first quarter of the year.

“As the Galaxy S6 was released 2~3 weeks earlier than originally planned, not only the OMS Business Division [which makes the 20-megapixel OIS cameras], but also the ACI Business Division is doing very well,” ETNews writes. “The ACI Business Division supplies the IVH (Interstitial Via Hole) HDI (High Density Interconnection) for the Galaxy S6.”

Even though ETNews says the Galaxy S6 “was released” a few weeks earlier than planned, it doesn’t mention any actual release dates for the handset. The Galaxy S6 is expected to be unveiled at some point in early March, though it’s not clear when the phone will be launched in stores.
