‘Game of Thrones,’ Taylor Swift, PewDiePie Among New Record Breakers
HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” YouTube star PewDiePie and music sensation Taylor Swift all have new titles to add to their resumes: They’re all on the latest list of Guinness record holders.
In an attempt to fight against TV piracy, “Game of Thrones” broadcast the first episode of its fifth season to a staggering 173 countries simultaneously — resulting in the fantasy series breaking the record for largest TV drama simulcast. This beat out the number “CSI” set five weeks earlier by two countries.
Taylor Swift hauled in the award for most million-selling weeks on U.S. albums charts. As the only act to hold three million-selling weeks, Swift star nabbed the record with first-week sales of her albums “Speak Now,” “Red” and “1989.”
With the help of his 36 million “bros,” PewDiePie earned the title of most subscribers on YouTube. In fact, the gaming star has more subscribers on that platform than Swift and One Direction combined.
Other record holders include “The Voice,” which now holds the record for most tweeted-about TV series in one minute after achieving 310,000 tweets across the U.S. in 60 seconds, and Dr. Dre, whose estimated pre-tax earning of $620 million garnered him the title of highest earning ever for a musician.
